Chances are you are aware of someone on the autism spectrum. The increase in diagnoses has its upsides and its challenges, too. In this week's Living Better newsletter, we hear from our experts at Dartmouth Health Children's and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth about this timely topic.

Happy to be a sponsor of this year's Stay Work Play New Hampshire "NH Next: A Summit for Young Changemakers", along with New Hampshire Housing. At this half-day summit, participants heard from, and engaged with, compelling young Granite Staters who have made an impact here in New Hampshire in the arts, social and environmental justice, business, politics, and more. We had a great group representing Dartmouth Health and Dartmouth Health Children's at the event.

Did you know that an estimated 54 million Americans have osteoporosis or low bone mass? We appreciate the efforts of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics endocrinologist Ugis Gruntmanis M.D., for his advocacy at the state level to help raise awareness about osteoporosis.
This is National Osteoporosis Awareness month! Good time to educate ourselves and patients on Osteoporosis and suffering it causes. 1:2 women and 1:5 men (as many as heart attacks) will sustain #osteoporosis related fracture, it is easy to diagnose and treat. Thank you Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation for being a grate champion and providing all the osteoporosis info materials to New Hampshire #pharmacies, thank you congresman Gary Merchant for coordinating all this effort with pharmacists, thank you Senator Sue Prentiss for helping with supporting this proclamation, and Office of Governor Christopher T. Sununu for signing it. I am also thankful to Dartmouth Health for supporting my work in raising awareness and improving care for patients with osteoporosis/fractures. Thank you

Volunteers who serve patients on hospice for Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire (VNH) gathered for a Volunteer Appreciation Event at the VNH office last month, marking the largest group of VNH staff and volunteers to have gathered in-person since COVID-era restrictions limited in-person visits. "They are all heroes in our eyes, and we are proud to celebrate them for National Volunteer Month,” said VNH psychosocial and volunteer supervisor Nils Fredland. “I can’t overstate how meaningful it is for a patient when a volunteer offers the gift of companionship; to laugh and talk, play cribbage for hours, work on legacy projects like scrapbooks or simply sit together. For many, the activities that bring them joy are as lifegiving as the outstanding healthcare they receive from our visiting providers.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/enrKg4vN

Learn how one nurse at New London Hospital overcame the challenges of the pandemic with the support of her colleagues. Today, Britany is still committed to her role at NLH and also shares her passion in another way as a clinical nurse instructor at River Valley Community College in Claremont, NH. https://lnkd.in/ewEFAJXj
