Volunteers who serve patients on hospice for Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire (VNH) gathered for a Volunteer Appreciation Event at the VNH office last month, marking the largest group of VNH staff and volunteers to have gathered in-person since COVID-era restrictions limited in-person visits. "They are all heroes in our eyes, and we are proud to celebrate them for National Volunteer Month,” said VNH psychosocial and volunteer supervisor Nils Fredland. “I can’t overstate how meaningful it is for a patient when a volunteer offers the gift of companionship; to laugh and talk, play cribbage for hours, work on legacy projects like scrapbooks or simply sit together. For many, the activities that bring them joy are as lifegiving as the outstanding healthcare they receive from our visiting providers.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/enrKg4vN

Today our nation celebrates Memorial Day, the annual day of commemoration and remembrance for the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in military service to our country. It is also a day for our communities and families to celebrate their lives and their service. For those of you who are caring for our patients this holiday weekend, we truly thank you, and extend our appreciation for your personal dedication to their health and well-being. We were proud to be the presenting sponsor of this year's New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR) spring conference "Prosperity Unleashed: Aligning Business and Community." Sally Kraft, MD, started the day with remarks about "how businesses and communities can work together to improve how we work, live, play and stay healthy." Teresa Dean Malcolm, MD, FACOG, MBA, CPE, CPXP, PCC led a breakout session titled "Unconscious Bias: How It Impacts Your Business and What You Can Do About It" and Ruth Berggren, MD, co-facilitated a Birds of Feather session called "Building Healthy Communities: Addressing Factors for Health Equity." Thanks to all who organized and attended this informative and inspiring day!

Cheshire Medical Center has received $750,000 from over $103 million awarded across New Hampshire from congressionally directed funding. U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) secured the funding in late March as part of the final government funding package for fiscal year 2024. “We are thrilled to bring innovative technology to the already high-level clinical care our rehabilitation team members provide our patients,” said Cheshire’s chief nursing officer Anne E.Tyrol, MHA, MSN, RN, CEN, CENP. The grant will allow Cheshire to purchase medical devices with robotic technology for therapy services in both Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation. Overall, Dartmouth Health received $3,092,000. Melinda "Mindy" Asbury, MD, PhD, knew she wanted a career providing care since she was a child. Growing up in Appalachia, she saw firsthand the unique struggles that people in rural regions face when it comes to healthcare. Now as chair of psychiatry at Cheshire Medical Center, she's able to help provide much-needed mental health access to a population she is familiar with and cares deeply about. “I really wanted to go somewhere where community was a value, where my being there would hopefully make a big difference," Dr. Asbury told The Keene Sentinel. https://bit.ly/3QlfrTw

We are proud of our decades-long relationship with the NH Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), providing clinical care for many of our state's most vulnerable residents at New Hampshire Hospital. And we're proud to share the next chapter in this partnership: today, Gov. Chris Sununu and the Executive Council approved a contract for Dartmouth Health to provide psychiatric and medical care to patients at Hampstead Hospital, the only source of pediatric psychiatric inpatient and psychiatric residential treatment facility level of care in New Hampshire. “Dartmouth Health psychiatry and the state are deeply entwined having grown over the years from psychiatric care and medical direction at New Hampshire Hospital to offering talented clinical leadership to many state services, including at the Glencliff Home and the New Hampshire Forensic Hospital, currently under construction,” said William Torrey, MD, Dartmouth Health’s chair of psychiatry. “As the state’s only academic health system, Dartmouth Health can utilize our expertise to deliver high-quality care, train the workforce, and break new ground in medical science and best practices.” https://lnkd.in/eCe3DyeG
