About us

Since 1949, Valley Credit Union has proudly served citizens within the Big Sky Country, which now includes 11 counties across Montana and Wyoming. From the beginning, we were founded on the promise to provide accommodating, personalized service, as well as top-notch financial services to our members. Those founding principles are the same driving force that still directs our mission today. Above all else, our primary motivation is always you. As a not-for-profit organization, we truly operate for the well being of our members. Unlike customers who just use the services of a financial institution, credit union members become part owners. And any profit generated is automatically put back into Valley Federal Credit Union to pay dividends, build reserves, and pay operating expenses. In that way, being a part of a credit union is really more like being a part of a close-knit family — one that functions for the betterment of all parties involved. If you are already a member of the Valley family, we'd like to thank you for your commitment to us. If you're not, we'd like to invite you to join a credit union that revolves around its members.

Valley Credit Union is honored to partner with Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines in presenting a Member Impact Fund grant to The Red Lodge Area Community Foundation! This grant for $10,000 will support its CART Program. A little description of CART: Carbon County Area Ride & Transit (CART) is a transportation system set up and operated by The Red Lodge Area Community Foundation, with the aim of providing safe reliable rides to individuals throughout Carbon County. Although anyone can utilize this service, it is directed toward those who do not have a vehicle or are unable to drive themselves. Members of the community can utilize it for a myriad or reasons, such as Doctor/Dental/Eye Care appointments, vaccinations and flu shots, groceries and food banks, senior centers, pharmacy, bank/post office, automotive service, public meetings and events, recreation, and social gatherings. Valley Credit Union is excited to offer Excess Share Insurance to our members for added peace of mind and convenience! The best part about it is no enrollment is needed; all members of Valley automatically qualify for FREE! As a member of Valley, your deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) for a minimum of $250,000. The NCUA is an independent agency of the U.S. government, providing similar insurance protection as the FDIC does for bank customers. Accounts exceeding the maximum level of coverage provided by NCUA, additional insurance of a minimum of $750,000 is available through Excess Share Insurance, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Share Insurance, a credit union-owned private deposit insurer founded in 1974 by credit unions, for credit unions. Valley is pleased to announce that we are the first credit union in the state of Montana to offer this additional insurance, providing our members with enhanced financial security and peace of mind. The easiest way to increase your amount that is federally insured is to designate beneficiaries on any individual, joint, and trust account you have. Each beneficiary is insured for $250,000. Coverage extended to all types of deposit accounts, including personal accounts, business accounts, share certificates, and IRAs.
