As May marks Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Sales Leader Maryeth Loriaux finds it essential to recognize different lived experiences. "I have been fortunate to experience the richness of the Dutch-Indonesian culture from my father’s side. Growing up, my sister and I spent extended amounts of time at my Oma and Opa's (grandma and grandpa's) home. People could stop by the house any time and there was always food and a listening ear." Maryeth leans on similarities between different cultures to build relationships. "I connect with many of my peers over a love of cooking and hospitality. Many of us see sharing a meal or preparing food as a way of showing love and nurturing relationships. "I am passionate about creating a more diverse and inclusive world and connecting people to their purpose. I enjoy working at State Farm because I feel seen and heard by my leader. I can be myself, which is…mostly peace, light, love and a little Sambal Oelek." Explore a career with an organization that encourages you to be your authentic self. https://lnkd.in/gZ5WskN

Prior to becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent, Dustin Tsu worked in the investment management industry for 15 years. After the birth of his first child, Dustin and his wife moved back to Los Angeles from New York to be closer to family. "I was still working in finance at this point but felt compelled to leave corporate life and pursue small business possibilities as our two children grew older. When I learned about the State Farm agent opportunity, I realized I could leverage my extensive financial services experience while educating customers to help protect themselves, their loved ones, and their hard-earned assets." Dustin reflects on the recent hardships he's endured and the reminder to cherish the blessings he has. "With a recent medical scare, I have experienced a deep appreciation to take time with loved ones and a greater understanding of family protection. It’s been a dynamic year in California, but I have an incredible support system that I’m deeply grateful for. What keeps me going is knowing that my team and I are doing everything we can for customers – our hearts are in the right place. Having the privilege to serve and raise my family in the same community I grew up in is so rewarding." Learn more about becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent: https://lnkd.in/giWjAvk9

Today, on World Day for Cultural Diversity, we highlight the incredible journey of independent contractor agent Makeda Nichols, who has been with State Farm for 40 years! Born in Ethiopia and raised in a multilingual environment, she is no stranger to achievement. Her father was a doctor for the Ethiopian Army and her mother ran a successful farm. Makeda attended a German boarding school in Ethiopia, then moved to Germany where she studied chemistry. After moving to the U.S., she met a State Farm agent who shared fascinating stories about his work experiences. This sparked something in Makeda and, when presented with the opportunity, she decided to make a career change and become a State Farm agent. "Looking back, it was definitely worth it. Even after 40 years, I still thoroughly enjoy my career. The best part of my career is the ability to make a real difference in people's lives. Being self-employed comes with its fair share of challenges, such as managing staff and adapting to changes. However, one positive aspect of change is that it keeps you young." Makeda’s all-women team brings a diverse lens with various backgrounds. Collectively, the office speaks Croatian, Latvian, German, Spanish and French, and assists a broad range of customers within the port city Mobile, AL area. Makeda's incredible journey with State Farm speaks to her commitment, resilience, and dedication – inspiring us all to reach for the stars and create a lasting impact. With graduation approaching and his college internship coming to an end, Ty Huynh wasn't sure of his next steps. Ty wasn't intrigued with the agent opportunity until he accepted a team member role with a local State Farm independent contractor agent.   "I really enjoyed meeting new people and talking with others, so when I took this sales position, my passion only grew from there. Having the ability to speak both English and Vietnamese allowed me to help more people in more ways and encouraged my desire to someday have my own name on an office sign."   Ty shares the benefits discovered through his fulfilling career.   "My 'why' in becoming a State Farm agent is rooted in wanting to help families manage everyday risks and provide assurance that their hard-earned assets are safeguarded. Although flexibility and earnings are motivating factors, ensuring the well-being of loved ones, even in the unfortunate event of one's passing, is what I cherish most. This career was the best decision that I have ever made and if I could go back, I would do it sooner."   Learn more about becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent: https://lnkd.in/giWjAvk9 #AANHPIHM
