National Bike Safety Month Recognizing peter sutton, Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Coordinator who makes an impact every day at MassDOT! “I have been working at MassDOT for nearly 15 years, serving as the Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Coordinator. My previous roles within the Office of Transportation Planning (OTP) included ITS-related work and Research. In my current role, I handle various bike/ped-related requests both internally and externally, including putting partner agencies in touch with appropriate staff regarding various active transportation programs and policies. Additionally, I also manage the statewide Bicycle Facility Inventory and oversee the Moving Together Conference. Throughout my 35-year career, it’s been the support of my colleagues in transportation that has motivated me to make a difference in the work I do. I want to give a special shoutout to my former boss Steve Pepin (now retired) who took a chance on me and placed me into a challenging situation that I can only describe as “learning on the spot” day after day in my first few years at MassDOT. One of my proudest achievements is growing the Moving Together conference which attracted a sold-out event with 1,500 attendees last year. I take pride in the day-to-day work on raising awareness of cycling and walking as accessible and socially equitable means of transportation. Outside of work fun fact: In my past life as a working musician (bass guitar) I probably know how to play over 1,000 songs off the top of my head! MassDOT has always supported my interests in promoting cycling and walking infrastructure, and I’m proud to be part of an agency that values diversity and awareness. #Safety #Transportation #MassDOT #EmployeeSpotlight #Spotlight #Bikesafety
