Students thank Grandma Mary! Grandma Mary arrived at school recently and was surprised with cards from the students thanking her for her help. Grandma Mary is a Foster Grandparent at Oak Hill Community school where she is known for her kind and gentle spirit. “I just love being with the students,” she shared as she viewed her cards. Many more Foster Grandparent volunteers are needed to assist children/youth at many locations in the community. To learn more contact Sue at (320) 229-4589 or by email at sue.feliciano@ccstcloud.org

Children know what to do with a grandparent; they know that they are there to help them and to treat them with kindness. This is evident in an Early Childhood Education classroom in Isanti. Grandpa Jim helps students learn their letters and play. A great deal can be learned from play like sharing, taking turns and having fun. When it is time for circle, Joe makes sure Grandpa Jim has a chair and promptly sits next to him for the quiet reassurance that Grandpa Jim can give when it is time to pay attention to the teacher. No one has asked Joe to get a chair, he has simply made it part of his day. If you would like to offer that quiet reassurance to a student as part of the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent program, please contact Pat Braun at 612-390-0617 or pat.braun@ccstcloud.org.

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is a leader in our country’s observance of Older Americans Month which takes place each May. The theme for May 2024 is Powered by Connection, which highlights the ways well-being is influenced by positive relationships and social connections. THANK YOU to the Central MN Foster Grandparents for using your superpower to connect with children/youth. The impact you make each day is amazing!
