Updates

  • #USSteel celebrated the successful completion of our strategic investment in a new, DR-grade pellet facility at our Keetac iron ore mining operation in Keewatin, MN. This historic ribbon-cutting event, titled: “Made in America | Made for the Future: A Strong America Starts with U. S. Steel,” was attended by state and local officials led by Gov. Tim Walz, local USW leadership, suppliers and key collaborators involved in the project, Keetac employees, and U. S. Steel senior leaders.  Check out photos from this special event celebrating the future of steelmaking … a future that is made here. See more: https://bit.ly/4ayf92E

  • The successful construction and start-up of the direct reduced (DR)-grade pellet plant at #USSteel’s Keetac facility in Keewatin, MN is one of the most substantial private investments on the Iron Range in recent state history.  The facility's primary focus is to manufacture DR-grade pellets, essential for electric arc furnace steelmaking, while retaining the flexibility to produce pellets for blast furnace operations. This strategic investment enables U. S. Steel to capitalize on our low-cost iron ore position, specifically by tapping into the DR-grade pellet market and meeting the demand for high-quality metallics inputs.  We are excited to celebrate this historic investment, documented in this brief video, at an event later this week.https://bit.ly/4bGm3nS

COASTALUME™ provides the strength, corrosion resistance, and weathering that America’s coastal roof and wall systems demand! Be sure to visit us during the 2024 Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Expo June 6th & 7th in sunny Kissimmee, FL! #StickWithSteel #FloridaRoofing #DuPontTedlar #USSteel

  • Daniel Brown, #USSteel's Senior VP of Advanced Technology Steelmaking and COO at Big River Steel recently joined steel industry executives at the annual AISTech Town Hall Forum where he shared his insights on "Sustainable Optimism," highlighting U. S. Steel's innovative strides toward a greener future. The forum covered a range of topics including business climate, sustainability and innovation. Take a look! https://lnkd.in/eaac-KZu

  • SVP & Chief Communications Officer Tara Carraro represented U. S. Steel at the inaugural “Future of News” summit in New York on May 15. Hosted by Stagwell, the event brought together news platforms and business leaders to talk about the intersection of news and brands. As a panelist, Tara spoke to the value of working with outlets such as Axios and local news. These strategic partnerships allow us to de-commoditize and differentiate our product brands and enhance corporate reputation. #USSteel #FutureOfMedia #CorporateCommunications #brandsafety #news #insights

  • Among #USSteel’s 8 employee resource groups, SERVE, dedicated to providing valuable, ongoing assistance to service members and their families, was instrumental in U. S. Steel being recognized by the Military Times as a “Best for Vets: Employer.” Gary Works chapter lead and SERVE Vice President Ray Tarnow helped make that honor happen. As he leaves his leadership position, we express our gratitude for his many contributions to our community and for the impact he’s made in the surrounding community working with the local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter. We would also like to publicly thank and welcome incoming Co-Vice Presidents, Chris Warner of Minntac and Ryan Ayres of Gary Works, both of whom are veterans that have honorably served their country.

  • #USSteel’s DE&I Report provides tangible evidence of the advancements we’ve made across our organization in 2023, and the positive impact we’ve had on our employees, communities, and with our suppliers. But our work isn’t done. We remain focused on the actions we’ll be undertaking in the months and years to come to bring those plans to fruition. We welcome everyone to read this year’s DE&I Report and discover how we are furthering inclusivity, broadening the talent pool of our workforce, and implementing initiatives for the benefit of all: https://bit.ly/4blmiEM

  • At #USSteel, community engagement means contributing to our communities in ways that bear fruit. In the case of a recent donation and employee volunteer hours for Tree Pittsburgh’s Giving Grove orchard program, that will literally be the case! BIG THANKS to our Mon Valley Works employees who were in Braddock, PA, near our Edgar Thomson Plant working side-by-side with the Arbor Day Foundation, Tree Pittsburgh, Braddock Youth Project, and Hoop Alliance to make this orchard a reality. The groups recently planted pawpaws, serviceberries, bush cherries, and honeyberries. 🍎 https://bit.ly/4dxkCcZ

  • Eaglet #7 has a new name: meet “Lucky”, the seventh eaglet raised by our bald eagle pair, Claire and Irvin, who make their home at #USSteel’s Mon Valley Works – Irvin Plant. Lucky's name was chosen thanks to a recent online contest benefiting Tamarack Wildlife Center that raised $7,000 from nearly 200 donors across 25 states and two countries! Stay tuned to our eagle cam to watch Lucky, along with Claire and Irvin, as they soar into the skies: https://lnkd.in/dSR5PvUv #USSteel #LuckyTheEaglet

  • Congratulations to the team at our Keetac facility in northern Minnesota for shipping the first direct reduced (DR)-grade pellets bound for customers on May 7! This was the final step in a $150 million investment designed to advance #USSteel’s metallics strategy by capitalizing on a key competitive advantage – our low-cost iron ore position. In a nod to Minnesota's heritage, a red pine—the state tree—was proudly placed atop the first rail car, symbolizing the strength and endurance of the project and our team. See the milestone moment in a brief video marking the successful conclusion of a project completed on time and on budget. https://lnkd.in/dvQfr4xb
