We’re continuing to share stories from our patients in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day (June 2). Here below is what Robert R. has to say about his journey with lymphoma. We’re grateful to share his story. For more of Robert’s journey and about cancer care at MedStar Health, please visit http://ms.spr.ly/6040YooQk. “When I first started feeling a swelling in my groin, I thought I might have a hernia. So, I mentioned it to my provider at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center and was scheduled for a sonogram and blood work right away. The imaging showed a growth in my lymph nodes, and a biopsy confirmed that I had large B-cell lymphoma. “I had six chemotherapy treatments as well as radiation. It’s now been three years, and I’m doing well. Follow-up scans continue to show that my cancer is under control. I put my trust in my doctors, and they quickly got me the care I needed to get the upper hand on my cancer. I am most grateful.” #NationalCancerSurvivorsDay #CancerSurvivor

We’re excited to continue sharing stories of hope and encouragement from our patients in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day (June 2). Here below is what breast cancer survivor Michelle S. has to say. To read more of her story and learn about cancer care at MedStar Health, please visit http://ms.spr.ly/6043YoWOP. “Like most women, I had my first mammogram when I turned 40. It was normal. But about nine months later, I noticed an indentation in my right breast, which was still there after four weeks. So, I made an appointment for a diagnostic mammogram and sonogram, which led to a PET scan and breast biopsy. “I soon learned I had stage 2 triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive type of the disease. I had 16 rounds of chemotherapy, then a double mastectomy at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. I am now cancer-free and very grateful. If something seems out of the ordinary, trust your gut.” #NationalCancerSurvivorsDay #CancerSurvivor

We’re continuing to share stories from our patients in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day (June 2). Read what Donna M. has to say about her journey with breast cancer, and join us in thanking her for sharing her story! For more on her journey and cancer care at MedStar Health, please visit http://ms.spr.ly/6045YolTP. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September of 2022 after discovering a lump. I was 78 years old. I was referred to MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, where I saw Dr. Ankit Madan, a hematologist and medical oncologist, and Dr. Patricia Wehner, a breast surgeon. “My cancer was found to be estrogen positive and HER2/neu negative, and I had a high risk of cancer recurrence. So, I had a lumpectomy to remove the tumor and additional chemotherapy treatments after surgery to improve my outcomes. Today, I am cancer-free and doing well thanks to all the caregivers at MedStar Southern Maryland.” #NationalCancerSurvivorsDay #CancerSurvivor

We’re continuing to share encouraging stories from our patients in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day (June 2). Here is what breast cancer survivor Monique has to say. Join us in thanking her for sharing her story! To read more of her journey and learn about cancer care at MedStar Health, please visit http://ms.spr.ly/6044YoYsa. “At the age of 38, I was told that the lump I thought was just a cyst was triple negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of the disease. I wasn’t even at the age to get my first mammogram, and here I was with three children, an eight-year-old and 12-year-old twins, facing breast cancer. I also had limited access to medical help due to my insurance. “But throughout my journey, I had a supportive team at MedStar Health who ensured I got the care I needed. They went above and beyond, providing essential resources and encouragement. Because of them, as well as my family and friends, and strong faith, I am here today!" #NationalCancerSurvivorsDay #CancerSurvivor
