Calling all Rum Runners, Flappers, Bootleggers, and Moonshiners! Come out and support your local history with a night of dancing, drinks, fun, and more as we step back into the 1920s. When Prohibition closed bars and made alcohol illegal, illicit bars called Speak Easys popped up all across America. These bars were secret and kept the American people flowing in liquor and spirits.

Join us as we relive this bit of history, we will have swing and jazz music, drinks, a raffle and more. If you are want, come dressed to impress for our 1920s costume contest and be sure to remember the password: “Blind Pig”!

Tickets are on sale at the RCHS museum, so be sure to call in at 507-332-2121 or stop down to get yours today. Tickets are $25 a person. We will be requiring ID for this event so be sure to bring it with you. Help support local history and have fund doing it! As one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, this event helps ensure we can continue our mission to Discover, Collect, Preserve, and Share the History of Rice County!

Friday, April 5, 2023 at 12pm; loading at the RCHS History Museum

Join RCHS for a fun day as we learn about the history and culture of the Mdewakanton Dakota. We will be visiting Hocokata Ti in Shakopee, MN where we will have a guided tour of their cultural center and museum.

The bus loads at 12pm and leaves promptly at 12:15pm. We will be leaving from the Rice County Historical Society Museum. We will arrive at 1pm and return by 5pm.

Tickets are $25 per person. This bus tour is limited to 45 people, so reserve your seats soon!

Join RCHS this month for our wool workshop Kid’s Day! We will have Theresa Bentz out from Get Bentz Farm to show Kids how to process wool from the sheep to usable thread. Then we will head over the Faribault Woolen Mills for a tour of the Mills and see how that thread gets turned into products we use today!

Thursday, April 18 at 7pm at the Rice County Historical Society Museum

Montgomery, Veseli, and New Prague often form three points of what is called the Czech Triangle. A region between Le Sueur, Scott, and Rice County where many Czech immigrants came to and settled. We invite to come out for a history of Czech Immigration given by Fred Simon.

Fred is a long time member of RCHS, as well as being the President of the New Prague Historical Society and having worked extensively with Czech Heritage Club.
