Information you need to know now about Forty Fort Borough.
Updated regularly.
As most everyone is aware there was a mine subsidence in Toby’s creek behind the Luzerne Lumber building. Forty Fort Borough officials have been in regular contact with DEP and County EMA since early Sunday to stay informed on the situation.
As of this morning, the only issues that we have seen in Forty Fort are on Tripp Street near the Little League Field. The mine water is flowing from an old air vent and collecting in the open field. There is a second location nearby where there is some water coming from the ground. Representatives from the Eastern PA Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR) have tested the water in Forty Fort to confirm it is mine water. Please consider the water hazardous and please keep pets away from the water. We will continue to monitor the situation on Tripp Street and keep everyone informed of any significant changes.
While our current issues are limited to Tripp Street, there is no way to know the extent of the effects this incident had on the stability of the underground mines. We would ask that if you observe any new ground water or possible subsidence, please report it to the Borough immediately or call 911.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance.
