Please welcome our new Artistic Director, Allen Matthews

Allen Matthews has been appointed as the new Artistic Director of Cache Children’s Choir and will also serve as director of the Cantate choir. He is a positive and passionate music educator, choral conductor, arranger, and singer with a varied conducting and teaching experience ranging from elementary to collegiate levels.

Prior to this appointment with Cache Children’s Choir, Allen taught classes and directed choirs at the Logan Institute of Religion at Utah State University. He has also directed choirs at the Orem Institute of Religion at Utah Valley University, served as the Artistic Director of the BYU Jazz Voices in Provo, Utah and as an assistant director of the Utah Valley Children’s Choir.

Allen holds degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Choral Music Education (B.M.E), K-12 Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (M.A.), and an Educational Specialist Degree (ED.S) in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Arts Administration.

When not directing choirs, he enjoys learning and teaching, playing the piano, listening to music, and playing basketball and golf! He delights in spending time with his wife, Tara, and children Miles, Quincy, Porter, and Ella. They and their wonder-puppy named Roxie are residents of North Logan, Utah.

Allen says, “For nearly 40 years, Cache Children’s Choir has provided a rich musical experience, history and legacy that has enriched the lives of thousands of families, children, and youth. I’m honored to now have this opportunity to serve as the Artistic Director within this incredible arts organization that has impacted and is impacting so many individuals in such marvelous ways.”

“One of my goals for the next 3 to 5 years is to increase the impact, exposure, and overall reach of Cache Children’s Choir. I’ve found at every level of music education that when an ensemble consistently performs music that is uncommonly excellent, it has a deep and lasting impact upon the ears, hearts, minds, and lives of both those who have created it and upon those who listen to it. When this uncommon excellence is consistently attained and maintained it naturally leads to increased exposure and expands the reach of the organization.”

“I look forward to joining forces with the outstanding team of gifted music educators and staff members in striving to help these mini, yet mighty, musicians in developing a lifelong love of music and singing.”
