Remembering Our Founder

Eagle Academy co-founder, Cassandra S. Pinkney, passed away in 2016, but her legacy will live on through the staff and community she left behind that is dedicated to her vision of top performing community school in which all children can learn and grow to their full potential.

In 2003, she partnered with Dr. Joe Smith to start Eagle Academy, the first exclusively early childhood public charter school in DC. Cassandra's legacy and passion for providing high-quality programs to low-income students is reflected in Eagle Academy, and it is our hope to continue her life's work for years to come.

The Cassandra S. Pinkney Foundation, exists to continue her vision and ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed. At the helm of the foundation is her daughter, Onari Jackson who is committed to preserving the legacy and goals of her mother's vision.
