Meridian General Manager

Malcom Gray – General Manager – Jakers Meridian

I was born in Anchorage Alaska and raised in Pensacola Florida. Growing up in those two cities gave me my love for the outdoors that I still enjoy to this day. But there was more. I also had the privilege to try many different varieties of food from different cultures including my Grandpa and Grandmothers own restaurants. There my real passion began.

As soon as I was old enough I began to work at one of my family’s restaurants. I started as a dishwasher and busser and eventually learned how to cook. I spent many more years expanding my knowledge as a cook at their steakhouse and continued to grow and learn about restaurants as a whole while striving to one day be able to operate it myself.

Eventually my Grandmother decided to get out of the business along with the rest of my family. They all pitched in and bought a ranch in Texas and finally convinced my dad to leave Alaska. Eventually my dad and I decided to open a smaller restaurant that would fit in our small town in the heart of Texas. I learned so much with My dad during this experience, and eventually learned how to operate a restaurant as a whole.

As time moved on I met my wonderful girlfriend Gabby and her brother turned out to be one of my best friends. There was no turning back from there. I missed the mountains and so did they. We packed our trucks and dogs set off out west.. long story short we decided on Pocatello Id where I was introduced to Jakers.

I saw an ad that Jakers had just opened a new restaurant and was hiring. Through family members I heard about how great of a place Jakers was, I did my research and knew that this was the restaurant I wanted to work for. I also knew one day that I wanted to tell my own story as a General Manager. I got a job as a salad cook and before long was leading the line. My passion for Jakers grew stronger and stronger. It was noticed and I was offered a position as an Assistant Manager. A year later I was given an amazing offer to come be the AGM here in Meridian, and for two yours I learned as much as possible knowing that one day I wanted an opportunity to be the GM in Meridian. Eventually the opportunity arrived and I was offered the GM position to which I gratefully accepted and couldn’t be happier.

Seeing or talking to a guest and being able to share the joy and happiness from them enjoying their lunch or dinner makes my day. I love making people happy and I love the environment that we work so hard to create here at Jakers. From the food, to our team, to our guests it’s an amazing experience. I will strive to provide that experience for everyone here at Jakers Meridian.
