IDAHO MUSICIANS: DONATE YOUR RECORDINGS TO THE RECORD EXCHANGE ARCHIVE AT BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY!

The Record Exchange is working with Boise State University to establish an archive of the store’s history and that of the Boise and Idaho music scenes at large, and we’re looking for musicians past and present to donate recorded media to the archives.

If you are an Idaho-based musician or a musician with Gem State ties – especially Boise and the greater Treasure Valley – Boise State University’s Special Collections and Archives at Albertsons Library would like to include your music in the collection, whether on vinyl, CD, cassette or digital files. Any and all recordings past and present will be accepted – whether officially or unofficially released, released through a record label or independently, etc. All donated materials will be preserved in the archive and made available for research.

To donate your music, simply bring one copy of each recording to The Record Exchange during regular business hours. If you have multiple formats for the same release, we will accept all formats, or you can choose one format to contribute. We will collect the recordings and transfer to Special Collections and Archives on an ongoing basis. If you are donating digital files, please email the files to CherylOestreicher[at]boisestate.edu. Donations are tax deductible. For large collections, or appraisal and tax questions, you may contact the archives directly at (208) 426-3958. A donation does not confer a transfer of copyright.

This partnership – initiated by Special Collections and Archives at Albertsons Library and Cora Lee Oxley, a Boise State Humanities and Cultural Studies student and former Record Exchange employee (and forever friend) – aims to highlight and preserve local music history through the lens of The Record Exchange, which was founded in 1977 and has worked to champion and support Boise and Idaho musicians ever since. The Record Exchange and retired founder Michael Bunnell are donating an initial collection of digital materials and memorabilia, including event posters and recordings of in-store performances, and will continue to add to the archives in the years to come.
