May 5 marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people (#MMIWG2S) in Canada, also known as Red Dress Day. Red Dress Day stems from to the powerful art project of Canadian Métis artist, Jaime Black. In 2010, Black hung red dresses in public spaces as a visual reminder of the staggering number of missing and murdered Indigenous women across Canada. Today, the symbolic Red Dress has turned into an annual event, bringing people together to honour the lives lost and demand justice for Indigenous victims and their families. Bluewater Health has hung Red Dresses (in Sarnia & Petrolia) in memory of the Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S) who are missing or murdered across Canada. Hospital flags have also been lowered to half-mast.

Meet Kumar, another of Bluewater Health's newest Patient Experience Partners. "My wife and I were truly blessed to become grandparents with the arrival of our grandson in November. We were touched by the care and kindness shown by the healthcare professionals - particularly in the midst of a cyberattack. We look forward to sharing our experience as caregivers, as well as being a part of various hospital initiatives in providing positive patient experience." Welcome Kumar! #WeAreBWH #PatientExperienceWeek

Meet Caitlin, one of Bluewater Health's newest Patient Experience Partners bringing direct patient and family perspective to influence hospital policies, programs, and practices. "I want to help assure everyone is receiving the genuine, quality care I did while I was a maternity ward patient. I want to be a voice for those who might be afraid, uncertain and worried. It is important to me that Indigenous mothers feel safe, heard and cared for. I want to be a part of making those differences. I am honoured to have this opportunity and look forward to working together for a strong future. Miigwetch." #WeAreBWH #PatientExperienceWeek
