Each fire season, wildland firefighters risk their lives to protect our forests and communities. Weyerhaeuser recognizes the impact these fires can have on the mental health of first responders and their families and the critical need to address mental health challenges without stigma. We’ve partnered with Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance to raise awareness and provide an online resource hub designed for wildland firefighters through our #FightingFiresTogether campaign, now in its third year. Please share this resource to help support those who keep us safe: https://lnkd.in/dFG9qVdm

The scenic Crown Z Trail meanders for 23 miles between the towns of Scappoose and Vernonia, Oregon, just northwest of the Portland metro area. Thanks to a collaborative project between our regional Timberlands team and the Crown Zellerbach Trail Advisory Committee, trail visitors can now learn about our working forests through a series of educational signs explaining different aspects of modern sustainable forestry. For example, as visitors read about sustainable forestry practices such as maintaining stream buffers, they can gaze out at the nearby stream banks and see what those buffers actually look like in action. Learn more about this project, and view examples of the signage. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #workingforests https://lnkd.in/evS3fZMB

Weyerhaeuser has partnered with renewable energy developers for more than 15 years to identify opportunities and support the development of wind energy projects on our land. Today, six wind projects are operational across our timberlands, including the Skookumchuck Wind Project, which began operations in 2020 as our first wind project in the West. These wind projects demonstrate how working forests provide multiple climate solutions, including helping meet the growing demand for renewable energy. #theweyerhaeuserway #naturalclimatesolutions

When Jamie Hughes, planning and inventory manager, joined the Southern Timberlands Campus Outreach team in 2009, the self-proclaimed introvert did so reluctantly, unsure if it was a good personal fit. But he stuck with it. Over the years, Jamie grew more comfortable in the college recruiting role, and today he considers recruiting to be a critical part of his contribution to the company. “I feel like my work as a recruiter is really about building a sustainable pipeline of students for all our roles,” Jamie says. “We’re working hard to bring in people with diverse backgrounds, good people with talent. I’ve been here for 26 years now and have gained experience seeing many of the different roles we have, which helps me understand where someone might fit.” For his commitment to sustainability and his dedication to recruiting for the future, Jamie was awarded a 2023 Truly Great Award. #meetourpeople #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

We envision a future where everyone has access to a quality, affordable home and are proud to be partnering with Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at University of Arkansas on a new research fellows program. The program includes two simultaneous applied research and design projects at the U of A — one focused on prototyping a 3D-printed, wood-composite house, the other on engineering mass timber to support three common housing typologies important to rural communities. #innovation #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #architecture Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/gRhzvCbz

Mike Bridges (right), a tradesperson mechanic at our Drayton Valley, Alberta, lumber mill, is known for his commitment to his team. He's spent the last 15 years building up a program to safely train new operators and is an active member of the mill's Health and Safety committee, and he's always ready to jump in to help with any safety or operational issues. Mike is equally committed to helping others in the Drayton Valley community. He’s a member of the Lamplighters Hockey Organization, which conducts an annual charity hockey tournament to raise money for local nonprofit groups — including the Drayton Valley Food Bank, Royal Canadian Legion and Minor Hockey. In 2023, Mike helped raise $25,000 for projects including Go Baby Go, the Senior’s Recreation Fund and Drake’s Senior Bus. For his dedication to his team and his community, Mike was awarded a 2023 Truly Great Award. #meetourpeople #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Our working forests remove millions of tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year, providing a ready and scalable climate change solution. In some locations, we're able to enhance those benefits by developing high-quality forest carbon projects that remove and store even more CO2, or by supporting the development of renewable energy projects that provide clean, efficient energy. It's all part of how we’re delivering climate solutions through our working forests. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #naturalclimatesolutions

“I’m like a basketball point guard,” says Gary Schweizer, director of engineering for our Engineered Wood Products business. “I’m not necessarily a good shooter or rebounder, but I can pass — which in this case means distributing innovative ideas throughout the company.” For his innovation leadership, Gary was recognized as one of six recipients of the 2023 Innovator of the Year award. Launched in 2021, this annual award recognizes and celebrates employees who are driving improvements and fueling operational excellence through their ideas, actions and the innovative environment they help create on their teams.
