Weekly Message from the Board President
Let’s break bread on Wednesday. Bread has been off our diet for the past week, as we celebrate the holiday of Passover. But Passover comes to an end Tuesday night. So to continue the celebration one more day, and to do it with food that was not allowed during the holiday, we’ll be holding a pizza and beer party at the Synagogue on Wednesday.
Pizza, beer, and soft drinks are being donated, so all you have to do is show up. We’ll start at 5:30 PM at the Synagogue. You are welcome to bring your favorite drinks, but you don’t have to. All we want is your presence, and your good cheer.
We’re holding a Yizkor service at the Synagogue tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30. The service starts at 10 AM. Come join us!
The First Saturday Shabbat Service will take place on the second Saturday of the month… May 11. Services, led by Rabbi Halfon, will begin at 10. The Zoom call starts at 9:30 AM. Here is the Zoom info: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89143353884. Meeting ID: 891 4335 3884.
Rabbi Halfon has recovered from his illness, as you may know. He taught Torah Thursday, attended services in person Friday night, and led services Saturday morning. So things are apparently back to normal.
Rabbi Halfon is preparing a Yom Hashoah service to remember the Holocaust for Monday, May 6. The program begins at 7 PM and will include prayers, poetry, and songs.
Now that Passover is behind us (almost), the next really big thing on the Synagogue calendar will be the Yiddish Food Festival on June 23rd. Cooking for the festival will begin in earnest (we need volunteers!). Cooking usually takes place on Thursdays and Sundays but check with us before you head over to the Synagogue to help.
We’re also actively recruiting sponsors for the Festival. The names of our sponsors will be prominently displayed on posters around the Social Hall during the Festival. Sponsorships are $250, and to be honest, are the main source of “profits” for the Festival, after we pay for the food, advertising, security, and other expenses. The Yiddish Food Festival is our major fundraiser of the year.
The Endowment Fund is raising money for the sponsorships of two chairs. One is to honor Harlan Ribnik in the large sanctuary, and the other is a second chair for Tim Solon in the small sanctuary.
Chairs in the large sanctuary are $500. They are $1000 in the small sanctuary. The money raised goes to the Endowment Fund, where it is carefully invested. A small portion of the interest is used by the Synagogue. As the Fund grows, more interest becomes available. The same applies to the Mt. Sinai Trust. Harlan Ribnik was a major donor to the Trust, and his donations live on, since the money he donated to the principal has never been spent.
If you would like to donate to honor either of the men, or sponsor a chair for yourself or someone else, please use our website or contact the synagogue office.
Here’s our Yiddish Phrase of the Week:
Ven di kats shloft, tantsn di mayz.
When the cat’s asleep, the mice dance.
Shalom,
Dave Lerner

If you would like to send money to Israel, here are some options:
.
From Temple Emanuel: JEWISHcolorado donors have stepped forward to offer a dollar-for-dollar match up to $200,000 for donations to the Israel Emergency Fund. All emergency dollars will go to support efforts on the ground in Israel, aiding victims of terror, addressing trauma issues, and assisting with emergency medical and infrastructure needs. The match was launched by Barry and Gay Curtiss-Lusher from a shelter in a Tel Aviv Hotel and JEWISHcolorado Board Chair Ben Lusher and his wife Nicole.
