Happy Long Weekend!
As we gear up for the kickoff to the summer season, we'd like to remind residents that we are still under a Fire Restriction in Drayton Valley & Brazeau County. The rain over the last few days is not enough to lift this ban. Wildfires can start easily from most causes, especially unattended campfires or cooking fires. Wildfires may become serious & difficult to control if not successfully contained while small.
Below is what you need to know about having a campfire on your own property, in a campground or on Crown land in Drayton Valley/Brazeau County and in the Rocky Mountain House & Edson Forest Protection Areas (FPA).
◾️Private Property & Municipal/Provincial Campgrounds in Drayton Valley/Brazeau County ◾️
✔️Wood burning campfires are ONLY allowed in approved fire pits www.draytonvalley.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Scanned-from-a-Xerox-Multifunction-Printer.pdf
Outdoor burning is permitted in approved burning appliances such as:
✔️Portable propane fire pits
✔️Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
✔️Charcoal and pellet barbeques and smokers
✔️Catalytic or infrared-style heater
◾️Crown Land in portions of Brazeau County ◾️
❌Open campfires are NOT allowed - this means that you cannot build a fire pit out of stones or a have wood burning fire on the ground
✔️Wood burning campfires are ONLY allowed in approved fire pits - this means that if you have an approved fire pit that is portable, you can take that with you to Crown land www.draytonvalley.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Scanned-from-a-Xerox-Multifunction-Printer.pdf
Outdoor burning is allowed in approved burning appliances. This means that you can take these types of appliances on to Crown land to use, such as::
✔️Portable propane fire pits

◾️Rocky Mountain House FPA ◾️

◾️Edson FPA ◾️
Includes portions of the Brazeau County, Yellowhead County, and includes the area North of the Pembina River. Currently Edson FPA is under a FIRE ADVISORY.
✔️Campfires are allowed in both designated campgrounds and random camping areas (Crown Land).
