Bradley J. Fikes scholarship

Donation protected
Thank you to everyone for your donations in Bradley's name to support aspiring journalists.
While we did not meet San Diego State's $25,000 minimum, the local chapter of the  Society of Professional Journalists has agreed to step up and administer the scholarship.
SDSPJ's board  voted on Dec. 8  to accept the funds to create a Bradley J. Fikes Scholarship. The money will be awarded in $1,000 grants each year to a local college journalism student in Bradley's name to honor of his exemplary career and his service on the SDSPJ board.  The board also agreed to consider funding the scholarship in the future after the contributions from all of us are exhausted so the memorial can live on in perpetuity.

Below is the original text put together by a group of us on the night of Bradley's service:

Please donate to a  journalism scholarship fund in Bradley’s name.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 in order to provide annual $1,000 grants in perpetuity. The program will be administered by San Diego State University for the benefit of deserving undergraduates in the School of Journalism and Media Studies.

(U-T accounting manager Debbie Botengan's name appears on this campaign so that her department can oversee the transfer of funds to SPJ.)
