April's High-Five Award winner goes to Mary Parrott, a physical therapist at our Therapy & Sport Center! Mary was nominated for the RESPECT value, Cultural Diversity, by her coworker Brett. Brett nominated Mary for stepping up and using her bilingual abilities to treat a patient. He explained that the Patient was very excited to be able to speak Spanish with Mary. Mary's manager, Kim, appreciates her willingness to help her coworkers with interpreting whenever she has an opening in her schedule. "From the patient’s perspective, to have the personal touch of a real person rather than a face on a screen is so valuable. When Mary interprets, she brings her skills and knowledge base as a physical therapist to the interaction and immediately puts patients at ease. Health care can be intimidating. Removing the barrier to understanding or communicating during times of health challenges is what our mission is all about," says Kim. Thank you, Mary, for your excellence in patient care!

This month's High-Five winner for the RESPECT value, Sensitivity, is Glenn Hipwell, RN! Glenn was nominated by Amberly Manogue, for being an excellent nurse. Patients have shared that Glenn takes the time to listen to them, is gentle about his tasks and care, and that out of all the really great nurses they've had, Glenn sticks out the most! Kathleen, Glenn's manager, says that he is very concerned about his co-workers. He offers to help on the unit and frequently offers to pick up shifts or on call shifts for his peers. He is consistently even tempered and in a cheerful mood, a pleasure to work with! "Glenn has the desire to be exposed to as much as he can. He worked very hard during orientation and is thriving independently on the inpatient unit. He offered to cross train to pediatrics, which makes him a more versatile employee on inpatient services. He is extremely responsive and attentive to emails. I also really appreciate his desire to learn new things. He is engaged, asks questions and he's a patient advocate," says Kathleen.
