Today we come together to honour Red Dress Day – a national day of awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ Peoples. The Red Dress has become a symbol for awareness of MMIWG2S+ and will often be seen hanging in a tree or window in homes or businesses as a symbol of remembrance and support for the families of MMIWG2S+. At Affinity, we’re committed to the Commission of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Actions and this commitment includes helping educate employees and members about the history, truth and importance of reconciliation. Starting on May 3, you may notice red dresses hung in some of our advice centres to honour and remember missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ peoples as we stand in solidarity with their family members and loved ones. May is Asian Heritage month in Canada and as a values-based organization, we celebrate the diverse landscape of our country. During the month of May, we honour and celebrate the achievements and contributions many Asian Canadians have made to our country. At Affinity, we’re proud to partner with organizations such as the Hindu Society of Saskatchewan Annual Vegetarian Banquet, Gujurati Cultural Society of Saskatoon NAVRATRI GARBA and Juniper Housing — an affordable housing initiative for the Chinese and immigrant community — for over 15 years, with mortgage financing and support in their annual community BBQ fundraising event.

Meet Michelle Block, one of our Team Leads in Dealer Finance, the area of our organization that’s responsible for loan applications that come through dealerships – whether that’s for a new car or a new boat! Her role as a Team Lead has allowed her to build relationships over the years with the many dealerships and partnering credit unions, and this is the best, and most interesting, part of her role – that and the fast-paced environment where things are always changing! When Michelle isn’t crunching numbers, she indulges in her guilty pleasures: ice cream and spa days. Which when put together, sounds like a perfect way to spend a day! Yesterday, we celebrated Earth Day! We’re committed to understanding the impact we have on the environment and our role in contributing to a more sustainable future and environmental protection.   Although we’re still in the early stages of this work, we recognize and celebrate the valuable impact our community partners, members and employees created in 2023, including over 78,000 members choosing e-statements instead of paper!   Have you switched to e-statements yet? Earth Day is celebrated globally on April 22, a day where people come together across the world to celebrate and be grateful for our planet and the amazing natural resources we all benefit from. When it comes to Earth Day and everyday, let’s think beyond recycling and think more about reusing and reducing waste right from the start. That’s where the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction comes in with the Repair Cafés, which are held in communities across the Saskatchewan! At a Repair Café you’ll find local, skilled volunteers to help communities keep items out of the landfill! Affinity is proud to sponsor this initiative to encourage a culture of repair and give items a new life and ultimately divert them from landfills.
