Happy Passover! Passover (or Pesach, meaning “to pass over” in Hebrew) is an 8-day Jewish holiday marking the Biblical Exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Jewish families observe the traditional Passover meal, the Seder, on the first 2 nights of the holiday. The ritual includes drinking 4 cups of wine or grape juice, eating matzah (unleavened bread) and maror (bitter herbs), and retelling the story of the Exodus. Passover starts on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan (the first month of the Hebrew year.) This year, Passover begins on the evening of April 22 and ends on April 30.

Happy Eid ul-Fitr! Eid ul-Fitr (or Eid al-Fitr, meaning “the festival of fast-breaking”) is a 3-day celebration marking the end of Ramadan. After a month of fasting and spiritual reflection, this is a joyous occasion for members of Muslim communities to gather and attend special morning prayers, enjoy communal meals and exchange gifts with family and loved ones (especially children). Eid ul-Fitr is also a time when Muslim families give food or monetary donations to charity to ensure that the less fortunate can have a holiday meal and participate in the celebration. This year, Eid ul-Fitr is expected to begin on the evening of April 9; however, the exact date is subject to the sighting of moon of Shawwal (the 10th month of Islamic calendar).

Shawna Rose Goss is one of our 2023 Faces of Wellness finalists. After facing abuse, human trafficking and confinement, Shawna turned to her community, building relationships with those nearby to help with her healing and personal wellness. In 2016, Shawna’s world was shattered again when she lost her husband in a workplace accident. Shawna felt lost and alone. Suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, she found she needed more support than what her manager and co-workers were able to offer. Shawna reached out and started a peer support group at her organization. Now, she holds seminars in various departments and encourages team members to contact her whenever they are in need. #FraudPreventionMonth is all about understanding fraud and ways you can prevent it. One form of fraud is provider fraud. Provider or retailer fraud occurs when a health care service or product provider misrepresents a claim, deceives a customer or deceives a health plan provider in order to receive a greater reimbursement.
