In recent weeks, we have shared our efforts to help 300 million people with health and nutrition as part of our 2030 Sustainability Goals. At the same time, we are reducing our own ecological footprint. In the face of global warming, mitigating and adapting to climate change is one of our top priorities at Bayer. That's why, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, #TeamBayer is committed to making our own operations climate-neutral by 2030. An important contribution to this is reducing our emissions by 42% by 2030 and sourcing 100% of the electricity we purchase from renewable sources by 2030. The chart shows the progress we made last year. #HealthForAll #HungerForNone #Sustainability

In line with our mission #HealthforAll #HungerforNone, sustainability is central to everything we do. Our #sustainability goals reflect our commitment to inclusive healthcare and food security - for the benefit of people and the planet. We sought the advice of the Sustainability Council, an independent panel of experts to review our efforts. Matthias Berninger, EVP Public Affairs, Science Sustainability & HSE at #TeamBayer, highlights the findings of their latest published report.
The annual report of Bayer’s Sustainability Council has been published today. It summarizes the discussions the Council had with Bayer’s Board of Management and other executive leaders during the last year. In a nutshell, we are recommended to continue to focus on strengthening our collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders, i.e. NGOs, governmental bodies, financial institutions, suppliers, customers and competitors in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17 “Partnership for the goals”. Looking ahead, there is still room to grow. Perhaps one of the most valuable recommendations is to increase our focus on regenerative agriculture, including environmental impact reduction, as regenerative agriculture is still hindered by many hurdles and a lack of mechanization. Providing women in LMICs with modern contraception also needs to stay on top of our priority list. Furthermore, we are encouraged to further manifest ourselves as leaders and frontrunners on human rights and ensure the best standards in our entire supply chain. To achieve all these goals, we must continue to provide all stakeholders with robust scientific data to ensure a transparent dialog. All in all, the recommendations received from the Sustainability Council are indispensable to ensuring that we are following a scientifically-informed strategy. For Bayer, the work of the external Sustainability Council is extremely important in order to continually question our actions and the progress in the implementation of the sustainability strategy in a critical-constructive manner. I am very grateful for the time the Council dedicated to us and would like to thank the members of the Sustainability Council for their work. I am looking forward to continuing with this exchange. https://lnkd.in/ewxJ5WQT Full Report can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e4Skqydw #SustainabilityAtBayer #SustainabilityCouncil2023 #HealthForAll #HungerForNone Special thanks to: Christian Klein, Sabine Miltner, Agnes Binagwaho, Ashok Gulati, Suzanne Hunt, Carolyn Miles, Dante Pesce-Gonzalez, Jeff Seabright, Jeffrey Ubben, Klaus Kunz, Dr. Matthias Schramm, Heiko Mussmann

India stands at the heart of the global malnutrition crisis, with an estimated 80% of its population suffering from micronutrient deficiencies. We conducted a nationwide survey of doctors to understand this issue and learned an optimal diet in India only achieves 70% of the required nutritional needs – a phenomenon which is called “hidden hunger.” Consumer Health’s Division Head Sandeep Verma talked with Devex about Bayer’s commitment to change this narrative through the Nutrient Gap Initiative (NGI) and its unique position of having expertise in both agriculture and nutritional supplement. https://lnkd.in/dFTQWh8M #HealthforAll #HungerforNone

By 2050, the global population is set to surge by two billion, this emphasizes the critical need for access to high-quality, nutritious food. In the wake of climate change and evolving pest and disease pressures, a sustainable food system isn't just essential for consumers, but also for farmers. Smallholder farmers form the backbone of food security in many rural regions across the globe. Understanding their vital role in agriculture, #TeamBayer aims to support 100 million smallholder farmers in low and middle-income countries by improving their access to agricultural products and services by 2030. This is all part of our sustainability goals. As of 2023, we've already reached 53 million smallholder farmers! #Healthforall #Hungerfornone #sustainability
