Improving lives and creating a more vibrant future for farmers, families, and communities in Central MN.

About us

Centra Sota Cooperative is a locally-owned cooperative offering honest & helpful information, innovative products, and exceptional service. We're proudly celebrating a century of serving farmers, families, and communities throughout Central Minnesota. The Centra Sota story began in 1877 when farmers joined together to market milk and butter through a local creamery. In 1922, Producers Coop Creamery was formed and became the first cooperative to produce Land O Lakes Sweet Cream Butter. Since the 1940s, we have grown and acquired other cooperatives in central Minnesota, resulting in the name change to Centra Sota Cooperative. While we have a history of growth, we've made strategic decisions about each changes to ensure that it would benefit our member owners and the entire cooperative. Since then, our business has continued to evolve as we strive to not just meet, but to exceed, the expectations of our members and our growing base of customers. We are now a well-rounded cooperative with strong business units in agronomy, energy, feed and grain, country stores, and lawn care. Our knowledgeable, dependable team delivers a comprehensive array of products and services. While we are proud of our roots and experience, we are always looking for the best products and ideas to share. We strive to be a leader when it comes to everything from new products and techniques to new technologies and best practices. Centra Sota Cooperative is about people – our customers, our members and our family of employees. Our high standard for customer service is not just a business strategy, it is an essential part of who we are and how we operate. Centra Sota is made up of the following departments: Agronomy, Feed & Grain, Energy, Finance, Country Stores, and Community Lawn Care.

Don’t always judge a cover crop by its top growth! Grab a shovel and get your hands dirty! These fields are located around central Minnesota with a sandy loam soil type. And they said we can’t build soil health in sand….. #conservation #agriculture #soilhealth #agronomy #healthysoils #minnesota #centrasota #agronomist #loveyoursoil Centra Sota Cooperative

  • Advocating for Agriculture doesn't just happen in the fields! Centra Sota CEO, Jeff Johnson, is also a Board member at Land O'Lakes, Inc. and is proud to help share the importance of agriculture, cooperatives, and rural communities.

  • Hi! My name is Halli Poppler. I grew up on my family’s dairy farm in Waverly, MN, where we milk approximately 650 cows. Growing up, I helped primarily with calf chores and field work. I graduated from Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High school in 2023. Throughout high school I was very active in our FFA chapter and served as a chapter officer for two years. Last year, I was a finalist for Star in Agribusiness for my proficiency in Vegetable Production. During high school I also participated in varsity gymnastics and served as captain. I am currently attending Ridgewater College. This year, I served as an Ag Ambassador for the program. I also completed a work study through the Ag Department, where I assisted with social media and other marketing tasks. I will graduate this May with an A.A.S Degree in Agribusiness. Additionally, I am completing a certificate in Ag Marketing and Communications next Fall. I am so thankful for my opportunity to intern through Centra Sota this April and May. I will be working in the Buffalo office and will be assisting with marketing and communications. In the future, I would love to have a career within an Agribusiness, focusing on office management, marketing, and communications. Since I was young, I've recognized the vital role the agriculture industry plays in our communities, and I'm excited to be a part of it as I continue my education and career.

  • Happy National Agriculture Day! The 2023 Proclamation reads, "American farms remind us of the beauty and generosity of our Nation. They feed the country and the world, and with each new planting season, they embody that most American of things — possibilities. On National Agriculture Day, we celebrate all the farmers, farmworkers, ranchers, fishers, foresters, and other agricultural workers who do so much to make our Nation strong, fuel our economy, and steward our lands." We are proud to work alongside farmers and support the great tradition of agriculture in Minnesota! #nationalagricultureday

  • With the warm weather this spring, many of us are already thinking about planting! If you also have crop insurance, here are the earliest dates you can plant to still receive full coverage on your crop insurance. Need help planning for the planting season? Contact your crop advisor or message us to get connected to one!

  • It's a Centra Sota tradition to hold our Getaway after the Annual Meeting. The Getaway is an opportunity to come together and celebrate the previous year's hard work and success! This year we added 5 new awards to the event and asked our team to nominate the winners. First up is our Remarkable Team Award! A team can take on many forms at Centra Sota – a location, a business or division, a group aligned around a project or event, etc. This award is to acknowledge a team that really hit it out of the park by working together to succeed. The runner-up is Santiago, and our winner this year is Centra Sota Albany! According to one nomination, "This group always seems in sync with one another and they are always helping each other out. They are a welcoming group that does what it takes to get the job done and is always having fun in the process. Way to go, ALBANY!" Stay tuned to see more award winners over the next week! #centrasotaproud #recognition
