Happy National Volunteer Week! Our wonderful volunteers play a leading role in making every performance a success - we simply couldn't do it without them! Volunteering at the theatre is a rewarding activity that allows you to make a positive contribution to your community, and it is fun! This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week is Every Moment Matters – it affirms the importance of each and every volunteer and the contributions they make, by sharing their time, energy and gifts with others for the benefit of the community as a whole. At Drayton Entertainment, we truly value our volunteers and want to express our sincere gratitude for their part in providing our patrons with an excellent theatre experience. Thank you, volunteers! CityNews 570's Mike Farwell recently interviewed David Connolly, director and choreographer of Footloose. The pair discussed the Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy's production - featuring 51 students from 20 different high schools - as well as the organization's role in the community. "(I) took on the idea that we could build a home for youth to find belonging, self acceptance, and real self esteem, to travel with them into life, whether they go on to become artists or not. But arts education just happens to provide these incredible skill sets, and life skills that will hopefully set them up for success. Those include things like self acceptance, self-esteem, accountability." - David Connolly Listen to their conversation at https://lnkd.in/gBB2USg5.

Exciting news from our Youth Academy: 51 high school students from 20 schools are teaming up to bring you another incredible musical production, following last year's sold-out success, Legally Blonde. Footloose showcases a talented company of high school students who not only grace the stage, but also take on pivotal offstage roles, including directing, lighting, sound, running crew, stage management, and wardrobe, all under the guidance of Drayton Entertainment’s inspirational department heads. Our Youth Academy is on a mission to make arts education accessible. The High School Musical Production Program is offered completely free to participants, thanks to the generosity of our supporters like Brad & Susan Carr from West Montrose and the Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy Season Sponsor, Heffner Group of Companies. Beyond being a stage production, this program serves as a dynamic platform for students to discover their voices, build confidence, and acquire invaluable life skills. See these students in action at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse this February! Save the Date: Feb 14–25 St. Jacobs Country Playhouse -> https://lnkd.in/gngBnfKF

The Woolwich Observer: More than a walk, it’s a stroll and hop down memory lane. The booming voice of Neil Aitchison will be heard at the Drayton Festival Theatre this summer. Aitchison, the actor who co-created and portrays the memorable Constable Archibald F. Inkster, the Mountie, has been cast as a special addition to the musical Sh-Boom: Life Could be a Dream. Aitchison will be playing the big-talking radio DJ ‘Bullseye’ Miller. “I’ve always seemed to be cast as a loud guy with a hat,” said Aitchison dryly. “Anyway, I never get the kiss-the-girl role, you know?” Read the full story here on the Woolwich Observer's website: https://lnkd.in/gpdGZ6Zs
