Mickey is our VOTM this #GlobalVolunteerMonth! And it's fitting, because, Mickey is an example of how a successful a volunteer relationship can be over many, many years. He isn't just a volunteer; he's an essential part of our team, bringing positivity, dedication, and a can-do spirit to everything he does. He's volunteered with Feeding San Diego for nine years and currently volunteers five days a week. We couldn't imagine our organization without him, and his contributions have truly shaped our success. Thank you, Mickey! #nonprofit #hungerrelief #foodrescue #volunteerstories

This week, 28 volunteers came from local Starbucks stores to help pack and glean food for community members facing hunger through their Global Month of Good volunteering activation. This event builds on Starbucks longstanding commitment to supporting hunger relief, including support of Feeding San Diego by providing volunteer support, FoodShare food donations, and FoodShare capacity grants. We are grateful to have recently received a volunteer capacity building grant from Starbucks through this partnership. #GoodThingsAreHappening #corporatepartner #volunteer

Meet Brooke, one of our food rescue coordinators who wanted to share her story behind why she cares deeply about ending hunger in San Diego County. "Having a background in environmental science, I knew I wanted to pursue a passion that not only protected our land, but to also take care of the community I grew up in. Food is a resource that all walks of life need, no matter what background a person holds. When I learned just how much food is wasted every day and saw people going to bed hungry, I was determined to make a difference. What better way to make an impact and give back to my community than by working with Feeding San Diego?" #nonprofit #hungerrelief #foodrescue

Team building for the win! Recently, our finance, sourcing, and programs teams did a team building day and visited the Convoy Asian Cultural District for a Historic Convoy Walking Tour. It was an immersive afternoon spent exploring the main plaza, Plaza Del Sol, the Yu Darvish mural, and all the wonderful businesses along the way including Sunday Ice Cream and Crab Hut. It brought our teams together to hear stories about the area's rich history and how the community is a vibrant arts and culture hub. #nonprofit #hungerrelief #foodrescue #teambuilding

Meet our California College Corp Fellows: Taylor, Heidi, Carina, Kendy, Isaiah, and Kate. This program helps create debt-free pathways to college while engaging students across the state in solving problems in their communities. Our fellows are all UC San Diego students who chose to spend their time volunteering with an organization that addresses food insecurity. We are so honored to have them with us for the entire school year to help them learn and grow while building a more equitable community where everyone has access to nutritious food. Want something to wear to show your commitment to Feeding San Diego's mission? This #EarthMonth you can get one of these new t-shirts featuring art by local artist Hanna Gundrum (Little House Ink). Wearing this shirt around San Diego is a visual reminder that that we shouldn't let food go to waste and instead should rescue surplus food and get it to people who need it! Talk about a conversation starter. Our limited-edition Feed People Not Landfills t-shirt is available to any supporter who donates $25 or more at this link: https://bit.ly/3TyE5kd. The t-shirt can then be picked up at Feeding San Diego in Sorrento Valley. Thank you for your support! #nonprofit #hungerrelief #foodrescue
