HPU believes in using three fuels to balance cost and reliability for its customers, and a sustainable energy transition grounded in the reality of our northern, natural resources economy. The first utility in the state of MN to adopt a Restorative Utility Plan to use the utility as the center of a local renaissance of reliability, energy sustainability, and economic growth. HPU maintains its service and rates without the support of any direct grants or subsidies. HPU values our independence and unique responsibility to be part of the regional, sustainable energy future.

Thank you Joe and all the members of IEEE that visited us along with our community members and staff. Multiple fuels, and primarily local biomass, allow HPU to obtain carbon neutrality while also supporting local and regional renewable energy and logging jobs. We appreciate the professional engineers in the electrical and electronic fields that attended the event and looks forward to ongoing collaboration.
We would like to thank Hibbing Public Utilities for allowing us to join their community event including cold weather prep/energy efficiency and a tour of their generation plant. It was great to learn about the plant's history and utility's plans. Very cool to know the fuel options used provide reliability, energy price savings/protection, and are a net savings on the carbon footprint/impacts. Thank you Elliot, Luke, Dan, Paul, Mike and the rest at HPU!

Not every #PublicPower utility has generation so MPU is unique having multiple generation facilities which contribute to the reliable and cost-effective electricity to our community. The power plant boilers located on the lakefront are currently being refueled from burning fossil fuels to burning Wisconsin-recognized renewable fuel pellets. This project is just one indicator of how MPU is focused on local innovation that will benefit our community. ✨ #ProudlyPublicPower
