Karli, an Idaho native and former Idaho wish kid, went to college in Arizona and worked as a community engagement intern at Make-A-Wish® Arizona. When she finishes college, she hopes to work for the Make-A-Wish Foundation or another non-profit full-time. In this World Wish Month interview, Karli explains how her wish inspired her to dedicate her life to helping others.

Granting life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses
About us
Wishes are more than just a nice thing. A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a life-threatening medical condition. This one belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish®. It inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible. Most of all, it's the founding principle of our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved - wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy. Whatever the odds, whatever the obstacles ... wishes find a way to make the world better. We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

This World Wish Month, we're honoring WishMakers, the people, organizations and companies that help us make Idaho wishes come true. For years, Capital High DECA has been hosting amazing wish-themed fundraisers and events for Boise wish kids through the Kids for Wish Kids program. This year, they hosted Abigail's princess-themed Disney wish assembly and last year, Gael had a Jurassic-Park adventure!

Wish Granted Fifteen-year-old Carter, referred to us with a lymphoma diagnosis, went to Hawaii for some ziplining and swimming. Carter, his parents, and little sister, experienced the thrill of ziplining and the excitement of spotting a whale. They explored the beautiful island of Oahu and also visited Waimea Bay, Manoa Falls, Diamond Head, and Iolani Palace and relaxed in the tropical sun.

Seven-year-old Dalton's wish to go to Super Nintendo World has been granted. Known as a smart and funny kid, Dalton's favorite part of the trip was meeting the Transformers at Universal. He told Optimus Prime that he preferred the Decepticons over the Autobots and everyone had a good laugh about that. Dalton, who is battling leukemia, also spent a day at the Santa Monica beach and another day just swimming and relaxing.

Twelve-year-old Riley is the first Idaho kid to have his wish granted during the inaugural World Wish Month. Riley, who is battling leukemia, loves everything outdoors: hunting, fishing, sports and raising animals. He is passionate about exploring nature and is always ready for whatever adventure is ahead of him. During his trip, he met his favorite Disney characters, rode the famous park attractions and built a lightsaber at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. "We had the absolute best time. Thank you," his dad wrote.

Nine-year-old Ella's wish to go to Disney World has been granted! Ella's favorite things are dinosaurs, fossils, and sea creatures, and she has dreams of being a marine biologist one day. She chose to go to Disney after her chemotherapy was over so she could fully enjoy the Jursassic Park ride, Animal Kingdom, and swimming with dolphins at Discovery Cove. Special thanks to Bauscher Real Estate for adopting this wish!

We're kicking off World Wish Month 2024 by celebrating Ronan's wish to go to Disneyland. Ronan is Idaho's 2024th wish kid. Ronan was born with kidney failure and was placed on dialysis a few days after he was born. He received a kidney transplant which has improved his health. For his wish, Ronan went to Disneyland where he met his favorite characters and rode all the rides. “He enjoyed the whole trip, but he mostly just loved going on all the roller coasters and rides,” said wish dad Mitch. “Going to Disneyland did make an impact on him and you could just see the pure happiness he had when he was on a roller coaster and the happiness he had just being there."
