The world’s first genetically edited pig kidney transplant into a living recipient was performed at Mass General last Saturday. “The success of this transplant is the culmination of efforts by thousands of scientists and physicians over several decades. We are privileged to have played a significant role in this milestone. Our hope is that this transplant approach will offer a lifeline to millions of patients worldwide who are suffering from kidney failure,” said Tatsuo Kawai, MD, PhD, director of the Legorreta Center for Clinical Transplant Tolerance at the Mass General Transplant Center. This month, six Mass General officers participated in the Tough Ruck 26.2 Marathon. The Tough Ruck, held in partnership with the Boston Athletic Association, happens the weekend before Marathon Monday in Concord, Massachusetts. Tough Ruck participants bear the names of fallen first responders and military service members while carrying at least 15lbs on their backs throughout the 26.2 mile course. Our officers proudly carried the name of former Mass General Officer Ian Strickler who passed away in July 2023 while training in a fire academy in Virginia. In addition, the officers raised over $5,000 for the Military Friends Foundation, which will go towards supporting the family members of the fallen. Congratulations to our officers for completing such a challenging, yet amazing event!

Children at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children received a special visit from the Boston Bruins and the LEGO Group Discovery Center Boston earlier this week. In honor of the Bruins Centennial Year, the two organizations collaborated to bring 100 care packages including tickets to LEGO Discovery Center Boston, LEGO builds, Bruins gear and more to children at the hospital. Master Model Builder, Sean Martin, and Princess Argenta from LEGO Discovery Center participated in the special delivery. "The Bruins are currently playing in round one of the NHL Playoffs and it’s great to be able to share some of that excitement with the families," said Boston Bruins Foundation President, Bob Sweeney, who was also present. Good luck to the Boston Bruins in their upcoming game! Mass General Brigham is the official healthcare provider for the Bruins and a proud partner of their playoff run.
