When Andrea and her dad were in a life-changing car accident in 2019, North Memorial Health was on the scene to air lift her to North – Robbinsdale Hospital where she received critical level I trauma care. Thanks to an incredible team and the comfort of one nurse, Andrea has exceeded expectations with her determination and strength – going on to play competitive sports and attend college. With the rising number of patients covered by Medicaid and Medicare, securing financial support is imperative to sustain our ability to provide essential care to the communities we have the privilege of serving. For decades, North – Robbinsdale Hospital has been a cherished beacon of care in our community and is facing critical financial challenges serving a growing number of Medicare and Medicaid patients. At 18 years old, Coby dove into the shallow end of a swimming pool and lost sensation from the neck down. After being rushed to North – Robbinsdale Hospital by ambulance, he needed emergency surgery and would spend the next two months doing inpatient therapy to rebuild his strength and mobility with the goal of walking out of the hospital. Having been inspired by the care of our trauma team, Coby eventually returned to North Memorial Health a few years later as an RN and today works as a Nurse Manager in the same hospital where he was once a patient. For Transgender Day of Visibility, we acknowledge and celebrate all transgender people who are an important part of our community. First celebrated in 2009, the day aims to focus on the positive contributions that transgender individuals make to the world - and we recognize this day to help reduce the stigma and discrimination on healthcare settings that transgender patients often experience. "Transgender and gender diverse folks are just human beings who have the same healthcare needs as anyone else," said William Drew, Gender Care RN at the Brooklyn Center clinic. "Trans folks have much worse health outcomes in general, because they tend to either avoid primary care or when they do get primary care, they are more likely than cisgender patients to have negative interactions with healthcare providers."
