Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo

Mayor Bowman has proclaimed May 6-10, 2024 as Economic Development Week in the region. Since 2016, Economic Development Week has been recognized in Alberta and in the region to help increase awareness of local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities and improve quality of life in communities across Wood Buffalo.

Today, May 5, is the National Day of Awareness for Missing, Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit+ People, and Mayor Bowman has made a proclamation in recognition of its significance in the region. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo supports the justice-related Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit+ People, to honour and remember the people and families impacted by this ongoing national tragedy.

Mayor Bowman has proclaimed today, May 4 as Community Gardening Day in the region. Community Gardening Day, hosted by Communities in Bloom, represents the start of the growing season and is the launch of the 2024 Flower of the Year, Orange Marigolds. The Downtown Community Cleanup was a litter-al success! Volunteers collected 42 bags of garbage totaling 772 lbs from the area around Kiyām Park. 🚮 ✋ Thank you to the RMWB staff and volunteers from Acera Insurance Services Ltd., Athabasca Watershed Council, BrokerLink, Merit Hotel & Suites, Northreach Society, Some Other Solutions (and more!) that took time out of their day to help make the region clean, green and beautiful! 🌱 #RMWB #YMM #CommunityCleanup

Community members and leaders are encouraged to help create a community of support for survivors, while increasing advocacy and awareness of sexual violence.
