Today is #WorldMalariaDay🦟🌍 In Zambia, malaria tragically remains the top killer of children under five. Backed by Rotary’s Programs of Scale award, Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia (PMFZ) confronts this worldwide malady at the local level. PMFZ Is a testament to the power of partnership between Rotary International, World Vision, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Zambian #Rotarian community. This project demonstrates our collective commitment to eliminating malaria in Zambia. Community Health Workers (CHWs) trained through PMFZ deliver essential health services for malaria, diarrhea, and respiratory illnesses, playing a vital role in rural healthcare delivery. The Rotary-led team of Rotarian volunteers and World Vision Zambia staff, focus on strengthening the effectiveness of CHWs through data quality audits, training Neighborhood Health Committees, and enlisting community, religious and tribal leaders to spread the message throughout the ten districts on how to prevent malaria, recognize its symptoms and seek prompt diagnosis and treatment. 🌍 This #WorldMalariaDay, Lucie Kasanga, Past District Governor of the Rotary Club of Lusaka, speaks to the impact of our Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia program. This initiative, a Rotary Program of Scale, demonstrates what can be achieved when we unite in commitment and action. Thanks to the relentless efforts of 2,500 community health workers, nearly 1.2 million malaria cases have been effectively detected and treated under this program. Our partnerships with World Vision USA, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Malaria Partners Zambia, and Malaria Partners International make this work possible!

🤔 Why do we believe #VaccinesWork? 💡Because thanks to vaccines, we have gone from wild polio cases in 125 countries in 1988 to just 2️⃣ countries today.

#WorldMalariaDay Countdown: 3 Days 🌍 In 2023 MPI launched key initiatives to combat malaria in rural African communities: -Comprehensive training programs enhanced Community Health Workers' (#CHWs) ability to test and treat #malaria. These CHWs are poised to become vital assets in vaccinating children against malaria once vaccines become widely accessible. -Established a new affiliate in #Zimbabwe, strengthening Rotary's involvement in the malaria fight by fostering local support networks and resource mobilization for malaria elimination campaigns. -Supported nine #Rotary clubs in six high-burden countries through our Small Grants Program, empowering local Rotarians to identify, plan, and implement projects tailored to the unique needs of their communities, playing a crucial role in the effort to end malaria. Local actions make a global impact 🌎 🍃 Help our planet (and people!) by tapping into your local food system. Not sure how to start? Here are a few tips: 👩🏼🌾 Support local farmers. The #Rotary Club of Toledo-Poinero, Brazil partnered with the State Agricultural High School of Toledo to help 12 local farmers increase their production and revenue. ♻️Reduce food waste. Harvest Against Hunger, a program of Rotary District 5030 (Washington, USA), collects fresh, local produce that might otherwise go to waste and connects it to people who face food insecurity. 🥬 Re-think growing food. Regenerative agriculture leader, fourth-generation farmer, and member of Rotary E-Club WASH District 9999 Angela TenBroeck says. "You don't have to have acres and acres to have food for people in their community. I call it the guerrilla gardening method; you garden on every stitch of dirt.” What are your planet-friendly tips? 🌎👇
