#ThrowBackThursday to a historic moment in Sibelco's journey! Back in 1983, our Lommel plant opened its doors, marking the beginning of a local production site 🏭. Fast forward 41 years, and we recently had the joy of inviting 100 of our current and former colleagues to celebrate this milestone with a delightful brunch. It was a great opportunity to reflect on our past achievements, share stories of our journey, and discuss the exciting challenges that lie ahead. Dive deeper into Lommel site by checking out this video! 🎥 . . . #WeAreSibelco #MilestoneCelebration

In early 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting 150 local students (ages 11-13) for the Scientix EU STEM Discover Campaign! 💡 🔍They delved into the importance of minerals for life and learned about Sibelco's exploration of these resources. We also discussed water's vital role for living things and built homemade water filters with different grain sizes. 💧 We hope these visits have sparked curiosity and inspired the next generation of young minds in the natural sciences! #STEM #SibelcoRioMaior

Sibelco partnered with RheEnergise on a groundbreaking hydro-energy storage project at our Cornwood site near Plymouth! With support from the UK Government and Devon County Council, this innovative venture will help us manage energy sustainably and reduce carbon emissions. As Ben Uphill MBA, our Director of Operations, rightly puts it, “Sibelco is looking at new ways to manage and secure its future energy needs and at the same time decarbonise its operations, and so we are excited about the potential contribution that RheEnergise’s hydro storage project can make to our operations. We are keen to adopt green technologies as part of an overall effort to reduce our carbon footprint, so we are delighted to be working with the RheEnergise team on this world-first.

🌍 Let every day be a day for the earth. This Earth Day, we teamed up with our young eco-warriors from primary schools in Lubliniec for a clean-up event. Together, we tidied up our local surroundings. This event, held in collaboration with local authorities, also featured a tree planting ceremony. 👏 A big thank you to our participants for their dedication and enthusiasm in cleaning up the park! At Sibelco, we're committed to supporting and advancing the circular economy. Each year, we source and transform over 3 million tonnes of glass waste into premium-quality cullet through our recycling facilities worldwide. #EarthDay2024 #Sibelco #CircularEconomy #GlassRecycling #GreenFuture

🏃 Last Sunday, more than 35 enthusiastic Sibelco employees and their families laced up their running shoes for the Baloise Antwerp10 Miles, Belgium’s biggest running festival. As in previous years, the event provided a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues outside the office. This year, we added a charity mileage challenge. For every kilometer our collective team covered, we pledged to donate to our Ukraine Relief Fund, helping our Ukrainian colleagues in need. Our collective effort covered over 500 kilometers, resulting in a significant donation. Thank you, everyone, for your energy, spirit, and commitment.

#News Sibelco to enter North American glass recycling industry. We are happy to announce the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Strategic Materials, Inc. (SMI), a leading glass recycler and producer of glass cullet in North America. “This transaction, once completed, will significantly strengthen and expand our operating footprint in North America with a resilient, key mineral platform at scale. The inclusion of a major glass recycler in North America into the Sibelco group will be an important step in the development of our activities in this segment outside of Europe, positioning Sibelco as a glass recycling leader in both Europe and North America. We see significant opportunity to develop the SMI business further, which should provide our customers with better access to quality products over time." said Hilmar Rode, CEO of Sibelco.
