Sharing God's love and His work of health, healing and comfort through skilled nursing care and senior living services.

About us

The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society is the largest not-for-profit provider of senior care and services in the United States. More than 27,000 people of all beliefs and faiths call us home. Locations: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. The Society’s mission is based in love. In fact, love is the motivation behind the care we provide. In recent months, we’ve begun to challenge ourselves to go the extra mile in finding new ways to share Christ’s love with the people around us. We’re highlighting eight profound traits that Jesus showed us. In addition to love, the traits are compassion, acceptance, joy, humility, honesty, courage and perseverance. The Good Samaritan Society Way is the name we have given this emphasis. It’s a new way of talking about sharing God’s love. But it’s an extension of what we’ve always done and how we’ve always loved the people in our care. We’re accepting this challenge to bring these eight traits of Jesus into our daily work and relationships. Connect with us! Celebrating 38 years of service with the Good Samaritan Society and the recognition of a Guardian Angel Award from the Good Samaritan Foundation. 🎉 Mike Deuth, former regional vice president for the Minnesota region was recently recognized for his years of service at a retirement party, where he was also honored with a Guardian Angel Award after several employees gave Guardian Angel gifts on Mike's behalf. Here are just a few of the kind words Mike's former coworkers had to say in their donor statements: "Mike's 38 years of service to the Good Samaritan Society exemplifies 'above and beyond'." "Mike is one of those individuals and leaders that embodied the very best of the Good Samaritan Society's mission! He lived it out through every interaction and gave his heart and soul to those he was privileged to serve." "You have been a servant leader and role model for those leaders you have served with. I will always appreciate your dedication to hospitality for all. You consistently went out of your way to make sure Everyone was Someone!" Congratulations, Mike! Enjoy your retirement!

When Ann Lee, a long-time nurse at Good Samaritan Society – Howard in Howard, South Dakota, was deciding on a career, she followed in her mother’s steps and chose nursing. Decades later, she’s still caring for residents. For Ann, nursing allowed her to care for family members, all in the Society nursing home that was built in her small hometown because local businesspeople made sure it happened. “In the 1960’s, a group of people saw a need and met with the Good Sam folks, developed a relationship, and broke ground for a facility in Howard,” says Ann. “My grandmother was one of the people in this group.” For Ann, the Society has a special place in her heart. Even though she retired from full-time nursing, she continues to pick up some shifts. Read more of Ann's story: https://san.fo/4buGwff

Always putting residents first, Good Samaritan Society - Albert Lea nurse Joe Abrego is earning recognition for his dedication to people in his care. His mission: helping people heal while lending an ear. An experienced caregiver now, Abrego found the nursing field after a local foundry shut down. “Took some test, and it said you should be a nurse. I said, OK, we’ll try it,” Abrego says chuckling about the challenging career. From med-surg to behavioral health, the 55-year-old has been at a bedside since 2006. Society MDS nurse Kristin Bangert said, "He’s kind. He’s patient. He’ll sit and talk to a resident as long as they need him to. And then he’ll go back and get his work done." Now, Joe is being honored with The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses. Read more: https://san.fo/4bjzwBE
