We thank the City of Augusta (GA) officials and many others who joined Parallel Housing, Inc., and Woda Cooper Companies, Inc. to host a ceremonial groundbreaking April 25 for The Lenox, a 64-unit, $17.5 million development. The property is targeted to renters who earn 30% to 80% of the area median income or up to $54,880 for a two-person household. The neighborhood where The Lenox is being built has significant impact in Augusta’s Black history. The property is named after the former Lenox Theater, a beloved 1921 historic venue that was damaged by fire and eventually torn down in the late 1970s. Critical to primary financing that resulted from state and federal tax credits allocated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs was local support including a commitment by the City of Augusta to provide a $640,000 HOME loan to the project, in addition to a long-term lease provided by the Augusta Georgia Land Bank Authority at a nominal cost. In addition, the Augusta Housing Authority (AHA) issued a bond and will provide 20 Project Based Vouchers. Highlights at the event yesterday included participation by the GA Assembly Representative Karlton Howard, who grew up in the Laney Walker neighborhood, and GA Assembly Representative Lynn Gladney, and comments by Augusta's Housing and Community Development Director Hawthorne Welcher, Jr., in addition to a song performed by the Kingdom Kids students from Beulah Grove Baptist Church in Augusta. Doris Ann Ingold Woda was a significant figure in the start of Woda Cooper Companies and now the company has opened a beautiful new property in downtown Wheeling to pay tribute to her. A grand celebration for the The Doris on Main was held Friday, March 15, with a community open house Saturday, March 16. Mrs. Woda was the mother of Woda Cooper's Chief Visionary Officer Jeffrey Woda. The Doris was supported by the City of Wheeling and the Regional Economic Development Partnership (REDP), with primary financing provided by PNC Bank and Ohio Valley ADC, Inc. https://lnkd.in/gTnWeqFT
