"It's personal for me. I grew up in Chicago, and my mom was a nurse at a hospital called Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois. She served a predominantly low-income Black community. Through her experience, I got a chance to see what true health care could look like when you add compassion and humanity while you are touching people in their most vulnerable states. She loved it and was great at it." Health equity work is personal for me. My mother's work inspires me, my faith grounds me and my lived experiences guide me on how I can help advance health equity with compassion and humanity. #ICYMI We have to tell you about our Minnesota Black Fellows Welcome Reception held at the beautiful Osborn370 facility, now home to our friends at GREATER MSP Partnership's office! This evening was not just an event; it was a gathering of visionaries in our very own "Living Room"—a space for both new connections and heartfelt reunions. The atmosphere was electric, buzzing with the energy of more than just networking—this was about building a community. The evening began with a joint welcome from the dynamic Ieesha McKinzie Collins from GREATER MSP and The Partnership, Inc. President & CEO, Pratt Wiley. Each speaker, including Tiffani Daniels of Minnesota Business Coalition for Racial Equity and City of Saint Paul’s own Mayor Melvin W. Carter III, added layers of inspiration with their words. Alumni Janine Sanders Jones, PhD and Adriene Thornton shared powerful testimonies of their growth and impact since participating in the program. The highlight of the gathering was undoubtedly the introduction of the 2024 Cohort—a group of promising leaders ready to steer their careers with purpose and passion—by our very own Minnesota State Director, Clare Oumou Verbeten and MN Deputy Director, Tiana Bellamy The room was a blend of joy and ambition, a perfect kickoff for the program year.
