The Whirlpool Foundation has awarded 30 scholarships to the students of Whirlpool Corporation employees through the Sons and Daughters College and Vocational Training Scholarship program. These scholarships celebrate the best and brightest among high school seniors across Whirlpool Corp. locations - including the company’s 10 U.S. manufacturing communities. The Whirlpool Foundation is supporting The Washing Machine Project to tackle a pressing issue affecting millions worldwide, especially women and girls - half the world’s population relies on washing clothes by hand. Over the next five years, the Whirlpool Foundation and The Washing Machine Project will deliver thousands of manual washing machines to communities and households to help address what we call the ‘Global Washing Divide.’ We will help unlock approximately 17 million hours for women and girls to improve quality of life, bringing efficient washing solutions where they are needed the most. This collaboration features the innovative Divya Washing Machine, designed by The Washing Machine Project and built with the help of Whirlpool Corporation employee volunteers. Whirlpool Corporation recently hosted 30 youths with Youth Solutions, Inc. Jobs for Michigan's Graduates (JMG) from Benton Harbor High School to participate in a hands-on "Grill Empire" simulation. Informed by company observations, Whirlpool Corp. developed the supply and demand game to demonstrate how to solve problems collectively. JMG youth and their Whirlpool Corp. mentors used model grills made out of LEGOs and were tasked with creating a process to plan, sell, and ship products to consumers.
