Inspector, Fuels (Timmins)


As an Inspector, you will enhance public safety and improve service delivery to customers by applying expert knowledge in your field to inspect and audit facilities and equipment governed by the Technical Standards and Safety Act and related regulations. Inspectors also investigate industrial, commercial, incidents, and public complaints relating to potentially unsafe operating conditions.

We are currently looking for an Inspector, Heating Fuels in the areas covering North East Ontario - Timmins, Hearst, Cochrane, Kirkland Lake, Timiskaming areas. Preference will be given to those who currently reside or are willing to relocate within this region.

About Us:

Since 1997, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) has delivered public safety services on behalf of the Ontario government. With headquarters in West Toronto, TSSA is a self-funded, not-for-profit organization that employs approximately 400 staff across Ontario. The TSSA is currently in the process of transitioning to an Outcome Based Regulator. Position Summary:

Inspectors are represented by the Ontario Public Service Employee Union - OPSEU/SEFPO, Local 546. As an Inspector, you will enhance public safety and improve service delivery to customers by applying expert knowledge in your field to inspect and audit facilities and equipment governed by the Technical Standards and Safety Act and related regulations. Inspectors also investigate industrial, commercial, incidents, and public complaints relating to potentially unsafe operating conditions.

We are looking for individuals with strong communication skills, who can present in a concise, clear, and articulate manner. You will need the ability to quickly adapt to change and realign with business priorities. You should have the disposition to follow scientific methods to determine root cause of incidents.

Job Responsibilities:

* Enhance public safety by attending and inspecting scenes of incidents, public complaints relating to program inspection services to determine root causes.
* Identify appropriate action to prevent re-occurrence including issuance of legal orders.
* Ensure a positive image of the company and maintain effective relationships by providing timely information to customers (including interpretation/application of TSSA's Act, Regulations, codes, and standards).
* Prepare and submit accurate reports within established timeframes; and maintain current electronic and paper records.
* Contribute to a workplace environment conducive to a high performing team by maintaining positive professional relationships with all members of the TSSA team; share expertise and best-practices; participate in the training and development of others; and provide back-up for colleagues.
* Demonstrate a commitment to health and safety by working in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and TSSA health and safety procedures, and when on site, customers' safety procedures, and by identifying and reporting potential and actual risks.
* Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional associations.


Job Qualifications:

* As this position requires daily travel, a valid Ontario driver's license is required.
* Knowledge and application of Occupational Health and Safety Act
* Intermediate computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
* knowledge of the Technical Standards & Safety Act and related elevating devices
* Self-starter manages the schedule and works collaboratively with supervisor and the scheduling team to prioritize work.
* 5+ years experience in the hydrocarbon fuels industry and a thorough knowledge of the Technical Standards & Safety Act and related Fuels Regulations 210/01, 212/01, 213/01, 215/01, 216/01 and 217/01.
* A Gas Technician level G1 or an Oil Burner Technician level OBT1/OBT2 is preferred.
* Liquid Propane (LP) and/or Petroleum Mechanic Certification (PMH/PM2/PH3) and/or Pipeline Inspector Certification (GPI) would be an asset.
* Knowledge of Codes and Standards and proficiency in the CSA B149.01 - Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, CSA B149.02 - Propane Storage and Handling Code, CSA B149.03 - Code for the Field Approval of Fuel-Related components on Appliances and Equipment, Liquid Fuel Handling Code and the CSA Z662 - Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems.

* Salary to be discussed pursuant to education, work experience and licensing.
